 L’Unione europea non è uno Stato ma un’associazione unica nel suo genere tra paesi europei, i cosiddetti Stati membri, che insieme rappresentano gran parte del continente europeo. Nei paesi dell’UE vivono più di 510 milioni di persone, ovvero il 6 % circa della popolazione mondiale. I cittadini degli Stati membri dell’UE sono anche cittadini dell’Unione europea. Attualmente l’UE è costituita da 28 paesi. Nel giugno del 2016 i cittadini di uno Stato membro, il Regno Unito, hanno votato a favore dell’uscita dall’UE.

LINGUE UFFICIALI DELL'UE

 L’Unione europea ha 24 lingue ufficiali. Perché così tante? L’UE non esisterebbe senza i suoi Stati membri e i suoi cittadini. Essendo un’organizzazione democratica, deve comunicare con i governi degli Stati membri, con i cittadini, con le imprese e con gli enti pubblici nelle rispettive lingue. I cittadini hanno il diritto di sapere che cosa viene fatto in loro nome e devono essere in grado di partecipare attivamente agli affari dell’UE senza dover imparare prima una lingua straniera. Sapevate che potete scrivere alle istituzioni dell’UE in una qualsiasi delle 24 lingue ufficiali e ricevere una risposta nella stessa lingua?

 EU MEMBER STATES
 The European Union is not a state, but a unique partnership between European countries, known as Member States. Together they cover much of the European continent. The EU is home to over 510 million people, which corresponds to around 6 % of the world's population. Citizens of the EU Member States are also citizens of the European Union.

The EU is currently made up of 28 countries. In June 2016 the United Kingdom voted to leave the EU.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGES IN THE EU

Why are there so many? The EU would not exist without its Member States and citizens. As a democratic organisation, it has to communicate with the governments of the Member States, its citizens, its companies and its public bodies in their own language. People have the right to know what is being done in their name. They must also be able to get actively involved in EU affairs without first having to learn a foreign language. Did you know that you can write to the EU institutions in any of the 24 official languages and receive a reply in the same language?

 Die Europäische Union ist kein Staat, sondern eine einzigartige Partnerschaft zwischen europäischen Ländern, die als Mitgliedstaaten bezeichnet werden. Sie erstreckt sich fast über den gesamten europäischen Kontinent. In der Europäischen Union leben über 510 Millionen Menschen, was etwa 6 % der Weltbevölkerung entspricht. Die Bürgerinnen und Bürger der EU‑Mitgliedstaaten sind auch Bürger der Europäischen Union. Derzeit besteht die EU aus 28 Ländern. Im Juni 2016 stimmte eines dieser Länder, das Vereinigte Königreich, für den Austritt aus der Europäischen Union.

DIE AMTSPRACHEN DER EU

 Die Europäische Union hat 24 Amtssprachen. Warum sind das so viele? Ohne ihre Mitgliedstaaten und deren Bürgerinnen und Bürger gäbe es die EU nicht. Als eine demokratische Organisation muss sie mit den Regierungen der Mitgliedstaaten, deren Bürgerinnen und Bürgern, Unternehmen und öffentlichen Einrichtungen in deren Sprache kommunizieren. Die Menschen haben das Recht, zu erfahren, was in ihrem Namen getan wird. Außerdem müssen sie die Möglichkeit haben, sich aktiv an EU-Angelegenheiten zu beteiligen, ohne zuerst eine Fremdsprache erlernen zu müssen. Wussten Sie, dass Sie sich in jeder der 24 Amtssprachen an die Institutionen der EU wenden können und in derselben Sprache eine Antwort erhalten?

 LANGUES OFFICIELLES DE L'UNION EUROPEENNE

L’Union européenne compte 24 langues officielles. Pourquoi y en a-t-il autant? L’Union européenne n’existerait pas sans ses États membres et leurs citoyens. L’UE étant une organisation démocratique, elle doit s’adresser aux gouvernements, aux citoyens, aux entreprises et aux organismes publics des États membres dans leur propre langue. Les citoyens ont le droit de savoir ce qui est réalisé en leur nom. Ils doivent également pouvoir participer activement aux affaires de l’UE sans devoir apprendre au préalable une langue étrangère.
